Nutley, NJ—Modern Meadow has begun moving into ON3 in Nutley, New Jersey at the site of the former Hoffman La Roche campus.
The bio-fabrication firm is relocating its headquarters from Brooklyn to a state-of-the-art laboratory and pilot manufacturing site that totals over 72,000 SF at ON3. While some of the space the company will move into is new construction, renovations of existing space at ON3 are underway. The company’s new headquarters is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2019.
Founded in 2011, Modern Meadow’s mission is to re-imagine animal materials such as leather. The company uses design, biology and engineering for sustainable manufacturing.
Last month, Modern Meadow debuted Zoa, the first ever biofabricated leather material brand. After five years of research in the lab, Modern Meadow created its first generation of materials created with nature’s essential protein, collagen, but grown completely without animal derivatives. Modern Meadow is currently partnering with world-class bands across luxury and consumer goods to grow products of Zoa, slated for release in 2018.
The company’s move to ON3 will bring over 200 new job opportunities from the expansion. Modern Meadow anticipates this hiring will take place by 2020.
